Anyway, all the callers were women, and all talked about how long cheating had gone on in their relationships before it came to a head. 10, 15, 25 years.. The ones who sought counsling faired well.. The ones who didn't, didn't...
One caller however described an afair that she has been carying on for 4 years... She's been married for 18 years, the man she's having the affair with has been married for several years. They both have children, hers are grown. She describes her husband (the one she is cheating on) as a wonderful man who she loves and who provides a wonderful life except for his ability to connect emotionally (pretty big exception). She said that she would feel horrible if her husband found out but that the affair actually makes her marriage better. Let's see-who is getting hurt here? Her husband, his wife, her children, his children... How can she be OK with this? Rationalization is a very, very powerful thing....
